Moving Forward in Life
Daily grind. Stressful life. Pressures from all directions.
Getting ahead feels more like struggling to stay on the ladder, hanging by a thread.
The goals you had, where are they now? You hoped to be like an arrow and shoot forward to a successful life. But…
Feeling out of control can happen at any time. Lauren*, Kim*, and Carol* share their challenges.
Lauren felt exhausted every day.
She couldn’t remember the last time she slept a full night and felt rested.
Her 25-year marriage felt stale, her job was unrewarding, and she felt underpaid.
Lauren was caring for her aging mother with Alzheimer’s in her home and taking care of her three children.
She wanted to go back to school to continue her education for a better job and better future for her family. Handling school on top of her everyday life challenges seemed impossible.
Kim felt overwhelmed.
Kim had a successful, well-paying job, but dreaded it every day, barely able to get herself out of bed each morning.
There was infidelity in her marriage that led her to feel unattractive, “not enough,” and unable to make a decision to leave because of their two children, home, debt, etc.
She woke up at 3 am every morning with intense anxiety and racing thoughts about everything in her life.
Kim questioned her work performance and parenting capability. The kids were disrespectful and had behavior issues.
And all that weight gain… she wonders if that’s why her husband was unfaithful.
Was she neglecting her relationships with husband, kids, family, friends?
She began having debilitating panic attacks which led her to see a physician, to find out that she was also having physical health problems at only 40 years old.
Were all of the years of neglecting her own mental health manifesting itself in her body with heart and digestive issues?
Life is too much for Carol.
Carol is the wife of a first responder and a US Veteran. She has been neglecting her own wellness while also trying to manage his issues with PTSD from his job-related stressors and his excessive drinking.
He’s hardly ever home; when he is, he is distant and isn’t engaged in the family activities.
The kids depend on her for all their emotional support and homeschooling, and she has little help with daily household activities.
Taking care of herself is not on her ‘to-do’ list. Everything else is ‘bigger.’
She wonders if she would be better off getting divorced but is terrified of “being alone” in her late 30s and starting over.
Sleeping brings on nightmares that almost always have some form of her drowning while she screams but no one hears her cries for help!
