Doing Everything for Everyone
Drop your kids off on time for school every morning, pick them up, take them to their after-school activities, keep the house clean, the laundry done, help with homework, go to the gym, make sure dinner is healthy and on time.
Kiss your spouse in passing while you are getting bedtime started. The marriage is okay – not everything you hoped, but better than some.
Part of you wonders if you should just be grateful? It could be worse, right?
But you want more.
Hanging on as a Single Parent
You put on your dress clothes and heels each day, work through lunch, pick up fast food for dinner on your way home, where you are greeted by kids yelling at each other.
Going through the mail, there’s an overdue notice on a bill from the orthodontist.
You haven’t dated anyone since your divorce two years ago. The friends who promised to see you through this have disappeared.
How many glasses of wine have you had this week? Too many?
Longing for the Family You Imagined
35 years old. Married for 4.5 years. If things had gone to plan, you’d have a toddler and another on the way.
Instead, you lost your mother to cancer last year and then had your second miscarriage two months later. You are heartbroken and scared that you’ll never have the family you wanted.
Anxiety about your future feels unbearable. Your once supportive husband now feels like he’s a million miles away.
You start feeling like you have failed at life.
